WESTERN MONTANA LITTLE GUY 2021 SEASON
LITTLE GUY 2021 NOTICE
WESTERN MONTANA LITTLE GUY WRESTLING BOARD MEETING NOTES
The board of directors for the Western Montana Little Guy Wrestling program met remotely on a Zoom conference on Wednesday, January 27th.
NO ORGANIZED SEASON FOR 2021
Board member Scott Kinney who is also the Superintendent of Superior School District opened the meeting by sharing his conversation with his district's attorney on the liability of administering a wrestling season this year for the WMLG Wrestling Program. The key area of contention would be hosting wrestling competitions in the program's name. If we agreed to support hosting events, it would mean that the organization and board of trustees would “own it”. In other words if the event became a “spreader of covid”, the program and board of directors would be open to litigation. As Scott explained it, there is a “Standard of Care'' law which would obligate the board to ensure everyone’s safety.
The Unit Representatives also reported that there were several clubs that could not secure workout facilities for practices, and even more that could not host competitions.
It was the consensus of the board that the Western Montana Little Guy Wrestling organization will not be having a season for the year 2021. Clubs will not be insured and should not organize practices or competitions in the name of the program.
ALTERNATIVE PARTICIPATION
Many teams plan to at least have a season of middle school practices and some teams planned to have dual meets. Most of the teams that planned to do this are supported by their school district’s as “School Related Activities”.
There are many USAW and AAU Wrestling competitions available for wrestlers as well.
UPDATE CLUB REPRESENTATIVES LIST
We would like to update the contact list for the Western Montana Little Guy Wrestling clubs. Please check the website to see who is listed as contact person for your club, and if it has changed, please give Brett Owen (website manager) the correct information.
SPRING MEETING
The next WMLG Wrestling board of directors meeting will be in late Spring. We will accept bids for the 2022 Western Montana Championship Tournament, and look at proposals for the betterment of the program. Hopefully, we can have a Covid-free 2022 season.
